GLOBNET Secretariat Pre-Mutual Evaluation Training in Tonga
The GLOBNET secretariat conducted a pre-ME training workshop in Tonga from 26-27 March 2019, to support Tonga’s preparations for its upcoming GLOBNET mutual evaluation. Tonga’s mutual evaluation will take place in 2019-20, with the onsite visit scheduled for October 2019 and the report to be adopted at the GLOBNET ’s 2020 annual meeting.
Over the course of the two days, the GLOBNET secretariat met with the National Reserve Bank of Tonga, the Ministry of Justice and the Working Group on Serious Financial Crimes, to provide an overview of the mutual evaluation process and to discuss expectations for the onsite visit. The GLOBNET secretariat also met separately with financial institutions and cash dealers to brief them on the mutual evaluation process. In addition, the GLOBNET secretariat was able to provide government authorities with some preliminary feedback on Tonga’s draft technical compliance submission.
